Challenge
One of Asia's largest mobile telephone operators wanted to take advantage of the benefits of modernization while also understanding and reducing its impact on the environment.
Solution
After collecting infrastructure data with Movere, CloudAtlas was used to scan 133 million lines of code across a portfolio of 28 .NET applications and 9 Oracle databases in just forty-five hours. Analysis generated cloud readiness, cost, effort and carbon emissions impacts across all migration options. Migration to VMs was the route of least effort but it did not deliver the transformational and environmental impacts the company was looking for. To kickstart modernization, the company started by focusing on two business critical applications which were selected because they required the fewest changes and remediation effort. Following this first phase, the company acted on the recommendation to convert all the .NET applications to .NET Core and modernize 19 of the applications to App Service and the remaining 9 applications to VMs with the 9 Oracle databases migrated to Azure Database for PostgreSQL.
